My stay at Cobden Hotel Birmingham had its ups and downs. The staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful, making me feel welcome throughout my visit. However, the hotel itself was quite dated, with a clear need for renovations in various areas, especially in the room. While I appreciated the low prices, I found the overall quality disappointing and think it could really benefit from some updates.
Rooms
5.0
The room felt very old, with issues like wallpaper peeling off and a bathroom that had grimy grout. I noticed that the furniture had an unpleasant smell, and it was just overall a very dated space. It's a shame because the bed, while hard, was tolerable.
Service
5.0
The reception staff were genuinely warm and eager to help, although I frequently needed to have them let me into my room because the access card didn't work. Despite the hotel's shortcomings, the staff's willingness to assist stood out positively.
Location
5.0
The hotel is conveniently located near the city center, making it easy to explore the area. It's right outside two bus stops, which is excellent for getting around.
Dining
5.0
Breakfast was served buffet-style with some hot items, but I found the food to be lukewarm and uninviting. There could have been more options for dietary needs too.
Facilities
5.0
The facilities felt quite limited, and I encountered several services that were out of order, like the ATM. The leisure facilities had additional charges, which wasn't transparent ahead of time.

I found Cobden Hotel Birmingham to be a mixed experience. While the staff were genuinely helpful and the beds comfortable, the overall condition of the hotel left much to be desired. I encountered several maintenance issues in my room, and the leisure facilities were in need of significant upgrades. 😟
Rooms

I was placed in a ground floor room that was cold and had several maintenance issues, including a broken sink and flaking paint. The beds were comfy, but overall the room felt neglected.

The staff, particularly Vanessa at reception, were incredibly helpful and made my check-in process smoother after a booking mishap. They were kind and accommodating throughout my stay. 😊

Dining
5.0
I enjoyed a pleasant meal in the bar, but the breakfast had a limited selection and lacked warmth in both food and atmosphere.

My stay at Cobden Hotel Birmingham was a bit of a mixed bag. I appreciated the location for its easy access to local dining, but the room conditions were pretty disappointing. From the outdated decor to the noise levels, it felt more like a hostel than a hotel. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it unless major improvements are made.
Rooms
5.0
The room was old and cramped, like a hostel. There were gaps in the walls, making it noisy, and the mattress was quite uncomfortable. The bathroom setup wasn't much better, with poorly functioning fixtures.
Service
5.0
While the reception staff tried their best, the overall service left a lot to be desired. Check-in took forever, and the complaints from other guests showed that many were also having issues.
Location
6.0
The hotel is in a good spot, close to restaurants and the city centre, which was definitely a plus during my stay.
Dining
5.0
I didn't try breakfast since I heard it was average at best, but the dining options around were convenient and varied.
Facilities
5.0
The public areas were clean, which was a nice surprise considering the state of the rooms. However, the other facilities didn't seem to stand out much.

While it was spacious, the bathroom was cramped and the shower was quite small. Overall, for the price, it was reasonable but could use some improvements.

My stay at Cobden Hotel Birmingham had its highs and lows. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made a good impression. However, the condition of the hotel left much to be desired, with dirty corridors and poorly maintained facilities. While the location is fantastic, I would recommend exploring other options along Hagley Road for a better overall experience.
